The easing of sanctions opened the door for Iran to start the overdue modernization of its fleet. Contracts for the purchase of over 100 aircrafts were signed with Airbus. One of the first new-build aircraft, delivered in March, was this A330-200.

Due to a lifting of international sanctions against iran, iran Air is also hoping to modernize its fleet. Until then a number of Fokker 100s still operate reliably on short and medium-haul flights.
