I recently purchased a Winged Fighters F/A-18 flown by the Blue Angels. The Demonstration Teams from the Air Force and the Navy always represent their respective services very well every time I''ve seen them. This past weekend at NAS Oceana, in Virginia, was no exception. I decided to purchase a scale I don't generally collect. This may start me looking more frequently at the 1/144th scale aircraft. It comes in a sturdy box with a nice secure fit, but not so tight that it becomes a wrestling match to remove the model without damaging it. The model, for it's scale, is nicely detailed and does not look cheap in it's construction. The colors are correct as are the markings. This one caught my eye because the #3 jet is flown by an officer from Statesville, NC, the state that I am from. The canopy can open, revealing some detail such as the ejection seat and what appears to be the HUD. They've gone to some length to show off the detailed landing gear that is attached properly, the way it's supposed to be. There is a tailhook under the engine nozzles, which are also nicely done. The jet comes with a stand even though it comes with the landing gear in the down position. I just like displaying them with their gear down, so this model is just fine with me in this configuration. I spent less than $20.00 and felt as though I had a nice addition compared with some of my more expensive models that just didn't measure up to what I had spent on them. If you are looking to stretch your money on this hobby, then the Winged Fighter Collection is worth considering. I would like to see them add some other aircraft as well as other squadrons. For me, this was a nice start.
