    McDonnell Douglas F-15E "Strike Eagle"
    87-0173, 90th FS, Oct 2005

In 1967 the U.S. became aware of the Soviet MiG-25 Foxbat. This made it necessary to develop a new aircraft to counter the MiG-25. The USAF rejected the USN F-14 Tomcat and issued its own requirements. The solution came in the form of the McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) F-15 Eagle. The F-15A made its inaugural flight in July 1972 and in January 1976 the first Eagle entered service. The "E" entered service in 1989. The F-15 was the first dedicated USAF air superiority fighter since the F-86 Sabre.

The 90th Fighter Squadron is one of the oldest units in the USAF, established in 1917 since then the 90th FS "Dicemen" have flown approximately 24 types of aircraft. In 1991 the 11th Air Force, 3rd Wing "Pair O Dice", 9th FS moved from Clark AB in the Philippines to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska where in 1994 they traded their F-4s for the McDonnell Douglas F-15E. In 2005 F-15E 87-0173 was assigned to the 11th AF Commanding Officer Lieutenant General Douglas Fraser. In 2007
    the 90th received the F-22. 1/72 scale pre-finished.
