Item Number: FFN17Span: 18"

The Nieuport 17 from France was the mount of many WW I Allied aces. It enjoyed high speed and superb maneuverability, making it an excellent fighter. It was faster by 10 mph than any British aircraft and was armed with a single synchronized front gun.
The Nieuport 17 was manufactured by Nieuport Company. The Nieuport 17 was a French fighter aircraft of World War I and was larger than Nieuport 11. The Nieuport 17 had more powerful engine, larger wings and the structure is more refined. Originally the Nieuport 17 retained the above wing mounted Lewis gun but later it was replaced by a synchronized Vickers gun. The Nieuport 17 replaced Nieuport 11 in service on March 1916.
The Nieuport 17represented one highpoint of the small highly maneuverable rotary engine fighter armed with a single machine gun. The Nieuport 17 was one of the classic fighters of World War I. The Nieuport 17 aircraft was adopted by the Riyal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service because of its good performance than any British aircraft ever produced. The Nieuport 17 was also used by Dutch, Belgians, Russians and Italian forces. The Nieuport 17 was also used at the Battle of the Somme and managed to adjust well with the German Aircraft, Fokker E, Halberstadt D-II and the Albatros D-II. The Nieuport 17 was considered the allies best fighter planes until the arrival of Sopwith Camel in 1917.
