D-558-1 Skystreak Douglas (1:32) by TMC Pacific Modelworks Item Number: KSD558TSpan: 13.25" Length: 9.5" The Douglas Skystreak (D-558-1) was designed in 1945 by the Douglas Aircraft Company for the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics, in conjunction with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The Skystreak was a turbojet powered aircraft that took off from the ground under its own power and had straight wings and tails. The D-558-1 reached Mach 0.99 in level flight, but only flew supersonic in a dive. In the public mind, much of the research performed by the D-558-1 was quickly overshadowed by Chuck Yeager and the supersonic X-1 rocket plane. However, the Skystreak played an important role in aeronautical research by flying for extended periods of time at transonic speeds, which freed the X-1 to fly for limited periods at supersonic speeds. Made To Order Model
Our "Made to Order" line consists of aircraft, ships, helicopters, space craft, plaques, and other models that we commence production on once we receive your order. These models are made to match the image you see here using blueprints and specs on-hand in our production facility. Production & Delivery time for a Made To Order model is approximately 12-14 weeks.
In addition to our "Made to Order" models, we can build any model to fit your exact specifications through our "Custom Model Program". This is the perfect way to recapture those memories that will last a lifetime. Click here for more information about our Custom Model Program.
