ME262A-1a "White 3" 9./JG 7 w/Airfield Base (1:72) by DragonWings 72 Item Number: DRW50279Barcode: 0 89195 50279 7 Case Pack: 10 Pieces per master carton Box Size: 9.7" x 10" x 5.5" Special Features: - 1/72 Authentic Scale - High Quality Diecast Metal - Historically Accurate - Detailed Cockpits - Pre-assembled Design work on the Me 262 actually began as early as September 1939, though its development was protracted. It wasn_t until July 18 1942 that the first turbojet-powered Me 262V-3 made its maiden flight. Capable of a top speed of 870km/h, the pair of axial-flow compressor type Junkers Jumo 004B turbojets were notoriously unreliable, and their average lifespan was just 25 hours. The latest addition to the Dragon Warbirds range is _White 3_ from 9./JG 7, representing the original fighter as it appeared in April 1945. Jagdgeschwader 7 _Hindenburg_ was the first and only fully operational jet fighter Geschwader of the Luftwaffe, with its pilots being some of the highest-scoring aces of the day. This fully finished and pre-painted model has a distinctive and authentically rendered three-color camouflage paint scheme. Details and proportions on the model are accurate, while colorful tactical markings add an extra element of interest. The cockpit is fully detailed for viewing. This release adds an extra dimension _ it is mounted on a beautifully modeled scenic base made of resin that portrays a revetment section of an airfield. This Me 262A-1a is perhaps ready to scramble or awaiting some much-needed maintenance of its fickle jet engines. Whatever the case, the scene is delightfully presented and expertly painted, providing an excellent canvas for modelers to add further details. Or unadorned, it makes a spectacular display in its own right.
