Lancaster Grand Slam Bomber, U Boats Pens Raid at Farge (1:72) by Corgi Diecast Aviation Item Number: AA32616The successful use of the five-ton Tallboy bomb led to approval for a ten-ton version, code named "Grand Slam". Lancasters were modified to carry Grand Slam up to the required 25,000-foot drop height. With these planes, No. 617 hit targets with the most devastating bomb devised before the advent of the A-bomb.
A large number of diecast metal components have been used in Corgis Avro Lancaster series, which includes many variants. All crew positions are occupiedthere is a pilot and navigator in the cockpit, a bombardier lying prone behind the perspex nose cupola and gunners occupying the rotating turrets. The overall presentation of this model has led to its popularity, from the accurate recreation of the Lancasters distinctive airframe to the simulated fabric control surfaces with photo-etched metal aileron trim linkages and twin oval rudders. A heavily constructed all-metal display stand is included to support this massive aircraft for in-flight display.
